The identity problem in the novels of Turkish authors living in Germany

This study examines the identity problem in the novels of Turkish authors living in Germany through the themes of migration belonging alienation otherness and cultural conflict. The main aim of the research is to reveal how Turkish individuals who migrated to Europe construct their identities and how these processes are reflected socially psychologically and culturally within literature. Novels written by authors from different generations were analyzed to compare how the concept of identity has been approached from the first generation of migrant writers to contemporary ones. The findings demonstrate that first-generation authors focus on identity within economic and social struggles while second-generation and female authors transform it into a field of emotional cultural and gender-based inquiry. In the modern period identity is no longer portrayed as a fixed sense of belonging but rather as an expression of hybridity and intercultural transition. Thus, the Turkish novel in Europe constitutes an integral part of both Turkish literature and European cultural memory. The study concludes that identity should be understood not as a static indicator of belonging but as a dynamic and continuously reconstructed existential field.
