Abstract (EN)

The aim of this PhD thesis was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practices of emergency medical physicians of university hospitals in Ankara on the management of violence against women from the perspective of medical ethics in order to provide practical information to contribute to the management of violence in emergency departments. Qualitative research method was used. The study population consisted of physicians of the Emergency Medicine Departments of seven university hospitals providing emergency medical specialty training in Ankara. The study sample consisted of 35 physicians. In-depth interviews were conducted and recorded individually. At certain times of the day and in accordance with certain themes, observations were made, and notes were taken in the emergency departments where the participants worked. Data were analyzed to develop themes and sub-themes related to participants' knowledge, attitudes and practices. The results showed that special approaches based on medical ethics were needed for the management of violence against women in the field of emergency medical care. In the light of research findings and national and international literature, this thesis proposed a case management model regarding medical ethics and medicine for the management of violence against women in the field of emergency medical care.
