A Contribution to Ankara City History: Turasan Bey ve Yeğen Bey -His Life, Charities and Waqfs-

Turasan Bey, probably lived in the village of Akcakavak / Tekke, in Ankara's Yabanabad district, between the first quarter of the 14 and 15th centuries. Turasan Bey is one of the leading beys of Ankara, who has waqfs and charity in the center of Ankara and in Yabanabad. After Turasan Bey's death, the trusteeship of his waqf passed to his nephew, Hızır Bâli who is known as Yeğen Bey among the people. With this task entrusted to him, Yeğen Bey has become one of the important figures of Ankara; With his charity, he led to the emergence of a neighborhood called after his name in the center of Ankara. While the Turasan Bey's waqf was a waqf that contributed to the army with six armored retainer during the foundation years (first half of the 15th century), it was transformed into a selatin waqf during the reign of Sultan Selim I, thus gained freedom and was secured from interference by state officials. In this study, the life, waqf and charity of Turasan Bey and Yeğen Bey, and their contribution to the city history of Ankara were examined. In addition, the waqf and charity founded by Fatıma Hatun, the mother of Yeğen Bey, known as Hemşire Hatun because she is Turasan Bey's sister, constituted another subject of the study. In this study, compilation-screening method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the study, the records related to the waqfs examined with the endowment in the archives of the General Directorate of Waqfs, the records related to the subject in the Ankara şerʻiyye registers and the waqf cadastral registers of the Ankara sanjak were used. As a matter of fact, in the waqf records in the cadastral registers dated 1463, 1522 and 1571, there are many shops, villages and hamlets dedicated to the waqf in the central Ankara and in the towns of Yabanâbâd, Murtazaâbâd and Çubukâbâd in the North. In addition, as far as it is determined from the documents found in the Archives of the General Directorate of Waqfs, there are waqf shops and houses in Istanbul Divanyolu, which were not in the records of the waqfs in the beginning. This situation reveals that real estate was purchased in the capital city to flow to the waqf later on. The situation of the waqf charity belonging to Turasan Bey, Yeğen Bey and Hemşire Hatun in the following periods was tried to be followed from the archive sources in the study; Some of the works belonging to these wafqs were destroyed by fire etc. It has been determined that it has not reached the present day due to disasters. Information about the waqf's charity that has survived to the present is also given.
