Abstract (EN)

In the present study, a collumn filling substance was prepared by using Amberlite XAD-16 resing modified by Anoxybacilus sp. SO-B1 bacterium , Th(IV) and Ce(III) ions present in the matrix were separated and preconcentrated by this column filling substance and determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Emissian Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). In the optimum studies, effect of several parameters, such as pH, flow rate type, concentration and volume of the eluent, biosorption capacity, volume of the sample solution on sorption yield of Th(IV) and Ce(III), influence of foreign ions on sorption in the column and on eluation were investigated and the optimum conditions were determined. Further more, preconcentration of Th(IV) and Ce(III) existing in trace levels in the matrix in the optimum conditions was carried out. These ions were preconcentrated 100 times in nearly evantitative yield.pH studies for Th(IV) and Ce(III) were conducted pH 2.0 to 7.0 and optimum pH fort hem was found as 4.0 to 7.0 and 6.0 to 7.0, respectively. It was determined that all of the ions sorbed in the column at these pHs.In the flow rate studies, the solutions containing Th(IV) and Ce(III) were passed through the column 1 to 5 mL/min flow rates and it was found that maximum flow rate for Th(IV) and Ce(III) were 4 and 3 mL/min, respectively. When the experiments were performed above these rates, biosorption yields decreased. In biosorption capacity studies, various concentrated Th(IV) and Ce(III) solutions were passed through the column and maximum biosorption capacities were found to be 28400 µg/g and 20820 µg/g respectively. In order to eluate Th(IV) and Ce(III) from the column and to preconcentrate, 0.25 to 1.5 mol/L HNO3 and HCI solutions were used and and it was determined that optimum eluent was HCI and optimum concentration was 1 mol/L.In the studies for investigation of effect of foreign ions on biosorption and eluation yield, influences of several ions, such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, CI- and SO42- existing in high concentrations in the matrix and it was seen that only Mg2+ ion? reduced biosorption yeild. The method developed by the optimum conditions obtained from the experimental studyies was employed forseparation and preconcentration of Th(IV) and Ce(III) present in Eskişehir-Sivrihisar bastnasite ore and similar result were obtained. Finally, in order to determine accuracy and precision of the developed method was applied to standard reference material (IAEA-Soil 7) sample and the results supported our method.
