Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate why translations are made from the original language as well as the intermediate language? What kind of translation problems and other reflections may occur when done? We are looking for answers to the questions through the novel "Broken Wings", which was translated from Arabic to Turkish and Arabic to French, which we can call direct translation, and then from French to Turkish, which we can call a relay translation. In addition, in our thesis, although Arabic is a common language in Türkiye why other language is preferred and the ideological backgrounds of these preferences were investigated. Along with it, the definition of relay translation, the processes it has undergone and its place in translation science were examined. The ideological background of relay translation use was evaluated through translation practises and political dynamics, especially in the early years of the Republic. Finally, we hope that the translation processes will be better understood by examining the differences between the direct Arabic and the indirect French translation of the work.
