Transcription and analysis of Avanzâde Mehmed Süleyman's work: Trablusgarb ve Devlet-i̇ Ali̇yye-iİtalya Vekâyi̇ʻ-i̇ Harbi̇yesi̇ (1911-1912)

In the twentieth century, Avanzâde Mehmed Süleyman wrote roughly 130 works in different issues under his several occupational identities such as physician, writer, journalist and historian. While writing his works, he aimed to illuminate and inform the people about various issues in the Ottoman Empire. He continued his attitude during the "Turkish-Italian War" that the Ottomans wagged war against Italian invasion in the province of Tripoli, Libya between the years 1911 and 1912. Avanzâde published a book about the ongoing war: Trablusgarb ve Devlet-i Aliyye-İtalya Vekâyiʻ-i Harbiyesi. In his book, he targeted two things. Firstly; he aimed to inform the people in the Ottoman Empire about warfare in Tripoli between the Ottomans and Italians. Secondly, he purposed to give detail information about Tripoli in terms of its historical background and common affairs. This thesis examines the book of Avanzâde that employed a lot of significant documents about the Turkish-Italian War. At the beginning of the thesis, the Turkish-Italian War will be examined so as to comprehend the book better, and then the information given by the author will be analyzed in the following chapters.
