Agricultural geography of Araç district

In this study, physical and human geography properties have been separately detected and related to activities such as agricultural production, animal husbandry and forestry the field that has been done in the field. The topographic characteristic of the study area is one of the essential factors in terms of the executability of agricultural activities. The suitability analysis was executed using many parameters of fields via Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). According to the results, existing agricultural areas completely match with suitable regions. The analysis shows that the suitability of agricultural activities decreases from plain to hilly areas. Temperature, precipitation values and land use status varied according to different altitude steps. Regarding the existing land-cover areas, 51% is a forest area, and 16% is agricultural land. Another is meadows which are not suitable for agricultural activities. There are many problems that limit agricultural activities in the study area. The population in the study area constantly decreases year by year. The young population does not prefer to live in the rural area and migrates due to the attraction of urban life. This situation has a significant impact on agriculture and animal husbandry. There are some shrinking areas compared to previous years in agricultural areas. In general, dry farming is preferred due to water distribution in the Araç stream. The establishment and development of valid irrigation methods will enable the cultivation of crops that need irrigation water. It cannot be said that the Araç district has made a significant contribution tothe economy of its own surroundings and Turkey in terms of agricultural context. Carrying out crop production in sufficient quantities for the household and limited transportation does not allow for interaction with around. Livestock and forestry are seen as more profitable than plant production. The perception of a one-day local market can be replaced by a broader understanding of the market for agricultural production and livestock for more profitability of yields.
