The literature of Kitāb al-Emsāl in Arabic literature: The example of Zemahşerī's work named al-Mustaksā fī emsāl al-Arab

Adages are wise words that were formed as a result of the emotions and thoughts that accompanied the events experienced by human beings who existed in the past and are known as a result of their experiences. Adages, which are inherited from our ancestors, were told about our ancestors' experiences over the years, their lifestyles, and the meanings they derived from their lives. The work called Al-Mustaqsa fi Amthal Al-Arab, which is considered an important source among Arabic adages and whose importance is mentioned in this study, is evaluated as different from other literary works in terms of the number and quantity of adages it contains. Al-Zamakhshari is known as a versatile Mu'tazila scholar known for his works that contributed to the Arabic language and literature. At the same time, he was such a person that he did not work on a single field throughout his life, but he strove to produce works on many different fields. This work mentioned is also about adages, that is, proverbs. The most important feature that draws attention in the work written by Al-Zamakhshari is that he gives the chapters and adages in an alphabetical order, in a systematic way. The adages in each chapter continue sequentially according to the next letter. While explaining the adages, he also gives a lot of space to poems in his work. The process of making use of verses and hadiths regarding the subject is almost non-existent. In this study, it is possible to see some of the stories, expositions and examples that the author expresses while presenting the adages. In the first part of this study prepared in this context, Al-Zamakhshari's life, scientific and literary personality are mentioned, and in the second part, the basic subjects and content of the book Al-Mustaqsa fi Amthal Al-Arab, which is different from Kitabu'l-Emsals in Arabic Literature in terms of the number of adages it contains, are mentioned. Evaluations are made on the author's wording and method. Apart from this, the place of the work in Arabic Literature is emphasized.
