The journey of return to self with tales in the context of archetypal symbolism (Gaziantep tales as reference)

Tales; it is one of the anonymous folk literature genres that builds a bridge between dream and reality, consciousness and unconscious. Fairy tales, which blend universal subjects with the language of symbols, also contain the cultural codes of the society in which people live. It is of great importance that fairy tales are woven with symbols and reflect the collective unconscious. Humans feel the need to reflect on their inner processes due to their creation. Literary works serve as a mirror to this creation. Fairytales, legends, epics and folk tales which are types of folk literature based on narration, make use of symbols while narrating the social, cultural and psychological states of the communities' in which they are created. It is of great importance that especially fairytales are full of symbols and reflect the collective unconscious. The formation and transmission process of tales, which are a type of folk narrations, reveal every state of psychoanalytic theory. The tales which are examined by the archetypal symbolism theory which is formed by Jung and Campbell's working principals, have been one of the most important tools in reaching the contents of the psyche. This type that succeeds to transfer the unconscious contents to the conscious, makes humans visit each layer of the psyche. Cultural codes and symbols are, in fact, hidden in every part of this sort. The aim of this study is to examine the tales, which have been brought together using existing and compilation methods and techniques, in the context of archetypal symbolism. In this study, a sum of thirty tales are examined. Each of these tales are tales told in culture and the parallels and common symbols between them are reached. Moreover, the existence of specific symbols and archetypes in tales are examined. Other aims are; to classify the Hero's journey in a sense of monomyth (departure, initiation and return) and reveal the symbols present in these parts, display the relation of each symbol to culture and show the connection to the unconscious in a psychological manner, examine the Hero's steps to reach his ultimate archetype, "The Self" and bring it to literature. Another of the study is deprivation and transformativeness of conditions which are determined as conditional. Hereby, the kind of messages given from the tales rooted in human history and which conveyed the culture from past to present are determined, through symbols, reached the first types of archetypes and these informations are entrusted to the permanence of inscription.
