Assessment of nurses knowledge concerning type 2 diabetes mellitus management with insulin therapy in Wasit province hospitals / Iraq

Objective: This research aims to evaluate and compare the knowledge of nurses working in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, pulmonary resuscitation, and surgical wards for diabetic foot care for diabetic patients who require surgical intervention in hospitals in Wasit Province /Iraq, regarding diabetes management from Type II and insulin therapy. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in Al-Karama Teaching Hospital and Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital in Wasit Province in Iraq from 01.04.2022 to 31/12/2022. The research includes participants who were nurses and the number of samples was (60) nurses formed from all nurses who provide insulin treatment for type 2 diabetes (DM) patients according to special criteria Data were collected by applying direct interviews as a method of face-to-face data collection. Nurses' knowledge was used to collect data. Results: the statistical analysis showed that the mean age in the study was 35.7 ± 10.8 and that 60.0% of the males from the study group were 20-50 years old. A significant relationship was determined between gender, experience, department, and educational level, there was a significant correlation between the department and knowledge of diabetes, and no significant between age, education level, years of experience, and knowledge of diabetes, and there was no significant relationship between nurses with knowledge of diabetes. The practice and knowledge at males were higher than females, and the Knowledge was associated with practices. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the knowledge and attitudes of the nurses participating in the study about type 2 diabetes among the nursing staff were good knowledge. meaning that there is a strong relationship between knowledge and diabetes and that knowledge positively affected the treatment and prevention of diabetes.
