Abstract (EN)

After the idea of defining and measuring the development of human and the society with economic indicators, the development index coming up as a result of contribitions of Amartya Sen and putting human in the center of development is seen as the most important indicator of improvement. However, it is not seen sufficient as an indicator of human development in terms of variables it contains and be criticized. In this context, with containing variables such as social, cultural, demographic, scientific etc. the development levels of countries are tried to be calculated. In this study, 52 European and Asian countries and 14 variables chosen and factor analysis and cluster analysis are applied for the purpose of examine and comparison of humanity development levels with the multivariable statistical methods. According to the new indicators formed as a result of the factor analysis, the countries were sorted by calculating the factor score loads of the countries. Countries were then assigned to clusters based on k-means technique in non-hierarchical clustering methods and the results were compared with the calculated human development index performance. It is determined as a result of study, factor analysis and cluster analysis results don't support each other and factor results in terms of similarity is stronger than human development index performance.
