Social security practices in the European Union and comparing social security spendings of the EU member states

The European Union is a community formed by the European states and citizens and aims to knit up European people in the economic, political, social and cultural areas. This union was established on international treaties signed by the member states and awarded authority to take decision and regulate in some matters. Accordingly, an unprecedented legal system was created that binded all the member states and citizens simultaneously, in the same way and to the same degree. A domestic market was also formed to facilitate the free movement of persons, goods, services and capital within the European Union. On the other hand, the improvements and changes experienced in the EU and around the world have affected, to a great extent, business life as well. Globalization and technological advancement obliged the movement of employers and employees, which created a need for a mechanism to protect the Social Security Rights of the persons. This study aims to explain how the effect of globalization on social security is dealt with in such a union that moves forward to full integration like the EU. This study examines the social security structure of the EU, compares social security spendings of the EU member states, detects the social security problems faced by the EU member states and offers alternative solutions for these problems. The social security of the employees in the free movement was previously ensured by bilateral agreements. In time, the regulations made by the EU administrative organs within the coordination principles have replaced for bilateral agreements and these regulations have become more binding for the member states recently.
