Abstract (EN)
Introduction and objective: Depression is one of the leading causes of disability in the world, affecting more than 300 million people Decently. The lifetime prevalence of depression ranges from 5-17%. Dec. It is aimed to Decipher the depression risk and related factors of individuals between the ages of 18 and 65 who applied to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Education Family Health Center No. 25, to inform the individuals who are at risk of depression in terms of diagnosis and management and to direct them to the relevant units if necessary. Methods: The study is a cross-sectional research and was conducted by face-to-face interview method to people aged 18-65 who applied to the education family health center between Dec 01.03-Dec 06.2023 and was completed with 355 volunteers. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was applied to the participants with the sociodemographic data form. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS program. Descriptive statistics were indicated by number and percentage, and binary groups that did not correspond to the normal distribution were analyzed with Mann Whitney U, and Kruskal Wallis in more than two groups. Results: The average age of the participants was 31.4±12.9 (between the ages of 18-64 Dec), 58.6% (s=208) were women, 71% (s=252) were single. 17.7% of the participants (s=63) stated that they had a negative life experience, 11% (s=39) did not have social support, 33% (s=117) did not have expectations from the future. The average PHQ-9 score of the participants was 6.9±0.2, and the risk of depression was significantly higher in women (p=0.003), singles (p=0.001), students (p=0.010), those who were weak according to BMI (p=0.002), participants whose income was less than their expenses (p=0.025). Conclusion: In our study, the risk of depression at the moderate and above level was found to be 24.3%. Being at a young age, female gender, being single, being a student, having less income than expenses, living alone or with friends, being weak according to BMI, having a depression diagnosis nearby, having experienced negative experiences, lack of social support, lack of expectations for the future have been found to be factors that increase the risk of depression. It is important for primary care physicians to conduct depression screening in all admitted patients and evaluate patients at risk of depression and refer them if necessary for early diagnosis and treatment.
