The analysis effect of the peace education to student?s violence

ABSTRACTIn this research the analysis effects of Peace Education Program students? violence has been aimed. In accordance with the aim of the research, the researcher arranged the Peace Education Program and this program was administered to 5th class primary school students.In the Peace Education Program touched on definition of peace, violence and conflict and relation between this concepts. The program touched on cause of conflits and apt results of conflicts for understanding conflicts. There are activities for in the conflict resolution the use of abilities of communication; the use of abilities of active listening, empathy building and the definition of negative senses and for anger management. Furthermore, in the Peace Education Program there are activities for the described process of negotiation and mediation and to achieve this skills.In this research, pre-test and post-test with control group design, quasi experimental desing, was used. The students wasn?t choosen randomly for this study is gathered from fiveth class students of two primary school which are associated with Ministry of Education in İzmir.The students which joined the study were depart two group. One of groups was educated the experiment group and applied The Peace Education Program to this group; another group was adopted the control group and not applied the program to this group. A total of 104 students joined the study. There are 27 girls and 24 boys namely a total of 51 students in the experiment group and there are 24 girls and 29 boys namely 53 students in the control group.?Conflict Solution Skills Scale? which is developed by Sarı (2005) and ?Aggressiveness Scale? which is developed by Şahin (2004) were used both groups at the beginning of the study. Then the experiment group attended the Peace Education Program which had been developed by the researcher. After this program the evaluation tool was applied to the students again.Data concerning to this study is gathered from fiveth class students of two primary school which are associated with Ministry of Education in İzmir city in 2007-2008 education year. Statistical analysis of data that are gathered from the research are done by using SPSS 11 for Windows Packet Program.Finally, as a result of Aggression Scale, experiment group, who are educated in Peace Education Program, aggression levels are found less than students of control group who are not in this program. There is not meaningful difference the students? pre-test points. But there is meaningful difference the students? pro-test and difference points. Peace Education Program effective positively the students of the experiment group. When are examined belonging to points of male and female students, there is meaningful difference male and female students of the experiment group between male and female students of the control group. And there is not meaningful difference with aggression levels male students of the experiment group between female students of the experiment group.As a result of Conflict Solution Skills Scale, this pogram are improved students? of the experiment group creative and positive conflict solution skills and decreased students? of the experiment group destroyer and negative conflict solution skills. There is not meaningful difference the students? pre-test points. But there is meaningful difference the students? pro-test and difference points. When examined belonging to points of the experiment group and the control group students, it s seen that; male and female students of the control group used negative and destroyer skills.Key Words: Violence, Conflict Resolution Strategies and Peace Education
