Three churches with tetraconcos plan in Başkale Çatak and Gürpınar

The most important one of the 3 Tetraconchos planed churches that is the subject of our thesis is Soradır Church located in Yanal neighborhood of Başkale district in Van. In terms of being earliest example of this type of plan region Soradır Church has special importance. It is also described as prototype of the Akdamar Holy Pilgrimage Church which is the most monumental sample of the Tetraconchos plan type. Sortkin Church located in Elmacı neighborhood of Çatak district of Van, which is estimated to built in the 7th century with its four-leaf clover plan type, is dated to 10th century because of the similarity of architecture . This type of plan is an example worthy of review due to it remains largely unspoiled Boutats Church located in Yedisalkım neighborhood of Başkale district of Van is another example of Tetraconchos plan type based on the information obtained from the sources. I want to state sadness of not research and gain it in literature this church which is not present today. The 3 Tetraconchos planed type which is the subject of thesis, is important in terms of being earlier than Akdamar Holy Pilgrimage Church, Varagawank (Yedi kilise), Virgin Mary Church and Erciş Arcuaber Church (Salmanağa). The Works are not only dealt with typolocigally, but also evaluated in terms of ornament and material. IV By examining the works of Tetraconchos plan type of Christian religious architecture which has an important place in our region, we hope that we prepare ground for specific research at least.
