Feminist theology studies in Western Christianity and approaches of churches

In this study, feminist theological studies and approaches of the churches to this issue in Western Christianity have been examined. Feminist theology has originated from women's movement of the 1960s and 70s known as second wave feminism and women's studies which is the academic wing of feminism. As a new theology experiment feminist theology aims to reevaluate traditional theology from a feminist perspective and ensure equality between women and men in theology. This study, in which we discuss the feminist theology studies that emerged in Western Christianity and the approaches of the churches to this issue with the specific methods of History of Religions, consists of an introduction and three chapters. In the Introduction, new theology essays, including women's studies and feminist theology, are included. In the First Chapter, primarily the role and importance of women in the Western world and subsequently the secular feminist movements that were influential in the period when feminist theology emerged were examined in the context of the conditions that prepared feminist theology in the Western world. In the Second Chapter, information about the nature, main features and arguments of feminist theology is given and focused on its aims, methods and types. In the Third Chapter, the approach of the churches towards feminist theology has been examined under the separate titles as the approaches of the Catholic Church and the Protestant churches to the studies of feminist theology. Thus, feminist theology studies that emerged in Western Christianity have been tried to be evaluated as a whole in the context of its nature, arguments and reflections.
