The research on the urban development stages of Batman

While cities are planned in such a form that they can respond the needs of them physically, they have been shaped with social, economical, cultural and technological factors all together. In the formation existed, the dominant factor has formulated the urban development areas. Today, the fact that Eskişehir has developed as a University City and Zonguldak as a mine city gave rise to their formations depending on their prominent features. However, for Batman, at the beginning, the appealing power of industry based on petroleum, and in later periods, the migrations to the city centre due to the clashes lived in the region have caused this progress. While these emigrations affected the urban development, Batman Province was tried to be planned during some certain periods. The aim of this planning carried out within the range of the city is to channelize the physical development of the city in such terms that usable fields, their densities, development direction, and their size. Not only are the plans that made during the development stage of the cities constitutes bases for the next plan period, but also they give data related to the stage of the development of the city. In this study, the planning performed within the range of Batman City, which transfers the related data of physical development of the city and its development process was searched basically. While analyzing the plans that are made for Batman, the natural, artificial, technological, and economic thresholds that shaped the planning and the city form which existed as a result of the effect these thresholds on city development stages were explored. Before the Batman City development stage was explored, the components that compose the urban form was explained by emphasizing on the urban form concept. Afterwards, the planning concept and the factors that affect planning and how they affect the planning were investigated. For Batman City as sampling area, the zoning plan, the landscaping plan terms that cover five main plan terms that were improved from Republic Period to the year 2010 that were prepared for the central district were handled. Additional and Revision planning works were not considered in five main planning periods, the defined Location Election Decisions, Function Field Decisions, Communication System Decisions, Intensity Dispersion, Structuring Arrangement were investigated, and the city?s development dynamics and the urban form that was existed during this process was evaluated.
