Abstract (EN)
The CYP1A2 gene, which is responsible for caffeine metabolism, plays a decisive role in the effect of caffeine use on sports performance. In this study, the relationship between the CYP1A2 gene and caffeine in aerobic performance was examined. While the effect of caffeine on general performance was examined by considering physical parameters and performance parameters over the shuttle test run, on the other hand, the performance components of the CYP1A2 gene were evaluated comparatively based on the AA genotype and AC+CC genotype. Fifteen male students, aged 18.67±0.72 years, studying in sports sciences, participated in the research voluntarily. After the sample group was created, samples were taken by swab method at Istanbul University Aziz Sancar Experimental Medicine Research Institute and gene analyzes were performed. While the shuttle test run was evaluated as an aerobic performance component, values such as oxygen saturation, lactate, pulse, perceived difficulty, maks VO2 were also examined comparatively based on AA and AC+CC genotypes. Three separate experimental protocols were applied to the subjects: caffeinated, caffeinated (placebo) and control groups, and shuttle test runs were performed three times with an interval of 3 days (72 hours). The caffeine value of the specially prepared coffee was calculated and determined as a low-medium dose of 3mg/kg. A double-blind experiment was conducted with caffeinated, de-caffeinated (placebo) and control groups. Friedman test was performed on data using IBM SPSS 22.0 statistical program; Pairwise comparison of parameters according to genotype differences was analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U test. As a result of the analyses, it was observed that there was a positive increase in the performance components of the AA genotype compared to the AC+CC genotype (p<0.05). There is a significant difference in the results of nonparametric data. Caffeine showed a positive increase in performance components in the shuttle test run (p>0.05). As a result, there was an increase in performance components such as the number of shuttles, shuttle level, distance traveled, and max VO2 in the caffeinated aerobic performance shuttle test run. Again, in the evaluation on AA and AC+CC genotypes, higher performance values were achieved in the caffeinated shuttle run test for the AA genotype than the AC+CC genotype.
