The relationship between smartphone addiction level and communication skill in emerging adults

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction level and communication skills of individuals, who are emerging adults, in terms of their educational status, gender, daily use and frequency of the smart phone. 370 adult (169:male, 201: female) participated in the study. Personel information form, smartphone addiction questionnaire and communication skill questionnaire was used for the data collection. In the analysis of data, SPSS 21.0 IBM statistical software was utilized for data calculation and evaluation. the normality test results showed that data had normal distribution. In the comparison of independent two groups, Independent samples T-Test was used. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used in multiple comparisons and Tukey test was applied to reveal the difference between groups. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized for the determination of the relationship between variables. As a result of the study, individuals with high smartphone addiction levels have lower communication skills. Additionally, Individuals with high smartphone addiction levels have higher daily use of smartphones. Furthermore Females have a higher level of smartphone addiction than male. On the other hand, the most common use of a smartphone is related to the addiction level and communication skills. In addition, smartphone addiction level and communication skills do not differ in terms of education level of individuals.
