Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT Master Thesis AN INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS ON THE LEVELS OF ANTIOXIDANT VITAMINS (A, E AND C) WITH MDA AND GLUTATHIONE PEROXIDASE ACTIVITY BY BENZIMIDAZOLE DERİVATİES ON RATS The present study examined the influence of two benzimidazole derivatives, 2- Phenyl-lH-benzimidazole and 2-Furan-2il-lH-benzimidazole, in dosages of 20mg kg"1 for 45 days intervals up to day 2, in Winstar rats. The aim of the research was to determine the A, E, C vitamins in blood serum, lung, kidney and lipid peroxidation which is leading to glutathione peroxidase activity in erythrocytes of rats by High performance liquid chromotography (HPLC) and spectrophotometers respectively. The A, E, C vitamins in serum, lung and kidney which subcutaneous administration with 2-Phenyl-lH-benzimidazole and 2-Furan-2il-lH-benzimidazole are lower than those of control group (p<0.05) and a decrease on MDA levels. (p<0.05) After the 7th subcutaneous administration, glutathione peroxidase activity in erythrocytes was decreased as maxium level but in the following days 15 *,30 *,45 * it was obtained that the results were nearly close to control group. As a result, we can say that these benzimidazole derivatives induced maximum stress and decreased the incidense of free radical. Furthermore, they increased the levels of antioxidant vitamins and decreased the activity of glutathione peroxidase. Hence; it will be more usefull to take antioxidant vitamins with the drugs which exist in benzimidazole derivatives. Key Words: Benzimidazole, Vitamins A, E, C, MDA, GSH-Px and HPLC III
