Determining teacher selection standards for science and art centers

The aim of this study; is to establish standards for the selection of teachers for science and art centers. Delphi technique was used while creating the standards. The Delphi technique is the process of obtaining a reliable questionnaire that is agreed upon by providing controlled feedback to existing opinions by seeking the opinions of an expert group. The expert group of this study consists of teachers who have successfully completed the teacher selection processes of science and art centers and are still working in science and art centers. In the study, criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods, was used while determining the expert group. Within the expert group; there are a total of 23 people, including 15 teachers, 6 administrators and 2 academicians who are experts in the field. Delphi technique was applied over 3 rounds. In the first round, a 5-point Likert scale was used, and in the other rounds, an attempt was made to reach a consensus on the current performance indicators. As a result of this study; seven standard areas were determined as personal characteristics, interest and desire, skills, communication, academic, technology and intellectual level. Opinions on the determined standard areas were analyzed and converted into performance indicators, and the consensus of experts on these indicators was revealed. A total of 64 performance indicators were obtained in seven standard areas, including personal characteristics (17), interest and desire (8), skill (14), communication (7), academic (8), technology (5) and intellectual level (5). Obtained standards and performance indicators are important for teachers to know the areas where they can improve themselves and to create a self-control mechanism for the qualities they can improve.
