Abstract (EN)
The goal of this quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest-posttest design is to evaluate the effectiveness of web-based training on blood and blood product transfusion, complications and follow-up provided to oncology nurses working in a university hospital. The research was conducted with a total of 73 nurses, 44 in the interventional group and 29 in the control group, working in the oncology service of Koç University Hospital between March and May 2023, after obtaining written and verbal consent. Nurses in the intervention group were given web-based training on blood products, transfusion, and monitoring complications. Nurses in the control group were not given any training but were asked to read the educational materials in the clinic. Data were collected with a personal information form and an Information Form containing blood products and transfusion monitoring prepared in line with the literature. In the study, while the total score average of knowledge about blood products, transfusion, complications and monitoring of the nurses in the intervention group before the training was 4.75±9.53, in the second week after the training it was 21.16±8.35, in the fourth week it was 24.75±6.89 and in the third month it increased to 27.57 ± 6.33. While the average knowledge score of the control group before training was 3.9 ± 8.05, it was determined that the average knowledge score increased in the second week, fourth week and third month in repeated measurements. A statistically significant difference was found between the intervention and control group in terms of mean knowledge score (p=0.00). As a result, it was seen that the total knowledge score averages of the nurses who received web-based training increased. It is recommended that oncology nurses provide web-based training in addition to traditional training materials on blood products, transfusion, and complications monitoring, and that the effectiveness of the training be evaluated for more than three months.
