Abstract (EN)
Tatvan district in the Eastern Anatolia Region of the Republic of Turkey to limit depends on Bitlis Province. Throughout history, many civilizations in shadow have followed one another. The region goes back to five thousand years ago. From the past to the present, the region has changed hands frequently until the Hurrians, Assyrians, Persians, Sassanids, Byzantines, Umayyads, Abasids, Seljuks, Akkoyunlu, Karakoyunlu, İlhanlılar and Ottomans. Koruklu, Göllü, Dibekli, Tuğ, Kıydüzü, Çanakdüzü villages of Tatvan District of Bitlis and Çamaltı hamlets of Çağlayan District and Düzcealan Village of Tatvan District were studied. Three monasteries and ten churches were identified in the region. In this study, it is important to introduce the monasteries and churches in the region for the first time in terms of Art History methodology and to introduce them to the world of science both in terms of architecture and decoration. The aim of this study was to determine the works of Christian Religious Architecture in the villages of Bitlis Tatvan District and to examine them in terms of both plan and architectural features. The current situation of the churches has been put forward by field studies, and the plan drawings have been tried to be supported with visual materials. In the evaluation stage, the place of the works in Armenian architecture was mentioned as priority. In the light of the data obtained, plan types were determined VI and a result was tried to be reached by comparing with other works outside the region. During our studies in the region, there have been troublesome moments from time to time due to some reasons such as land conditions and security problems. While 13 monasteries and churches were able to perform field studies in 10 buildings, 3 buildings could not be visited. Three different plan types were determined from a total of 13 buildings. 9 of these were built in one nave, 2 in central and 2 in Closed Cross Plan type. In the churches, which lacked ornamental elements, mainly mo-lose stone material was used.
