The effects and problems of tourism activities in terms ofurbanization in bodrum

Spatial changes inevitably ocur in countries, regions and places where tourism is on theagenda. Apart from changes in the bodyof buildings, tourism effects social and economicstructure in both positive and negative ways. Urbanization in Bodrum Peninsula has started inthe meantime with the development of tourism. In this study, throught a geographicalperspective, the activites of tourism towards urbanization with its consequences has beenstudied. The study consists of five sections with the first section being the terms of tourism and citybeing investigated, the second and third section being the analysis of the physical and thehuman geography of Bodrum peninsula. The fourth section covers the sources of tourism. Finally, the fifth section highlights the economic changes to the way of live do to tourism. For instance since the 1960's sponge fishing, fishing and buildings boats were the main economic activities however, in recent times these economic activities have been replaced by seasonal jobs. As a result it can be said that, tourism plays a key role in the development of Bodrum, therefore regions lıke Bodrum should benefit from the advantages of tourism.
