Geographical indications are expressed as rare products that are specific to limited areas of a country and that occur depending on human conditions. In this sense, geographical indications establish a system that has legal sanctions and protects the product, producer and consumer. In this study, in which the economically neglected importance of geographical indication applications, the importance of which started to increase day by day in Turkey and in various countries in the 2000s; The place of geographical indications in the development of rural economy is emphasized. While focusing on the Siirt province example, the TR3 region was also mentioned in the study. When the effects of geographical indications on the economies of various countries are examined; It is seen that the products registered with geographical indication have an indispensable importance in the economies of developed countries, thanks to their positive effect on regional and rural development by increasing the added value and employment created by the economic return of assets. It has been observed that regional agricultural and industrial products, which can easily enter the world markets, cannot gain the desired place in the market due to the fact that the geographical indication initiative has not yet received the necessary attention in our country and that effective awareness-raising studies in terms of the field of study are still lacking.
