Abstract (EN)

This study on diploma unemployment and returning to the family home focuses on the unemployment experiences of "out of town" university graduates in the family home. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with the unemployed with diplomas who returned to the family home and the experiences conveyed in these interviews were sociologically analyzed. The research has two main focal points. The unemployment experiences of diploma holders and their experiences of living with family again are the focal points of the research. While the young people's studying outside the city is associated with gaining individual independence, autonomous identity formation and transition to adulthood, unemployment and living in the family home are associated with loss of financial and individual independence, return to childhood and identity threat. The research also discusses the unemployment of graduates in a historical context and discusses it within the framework of the structure of the education system, the structure of the family and the role of the state in unemployment. Unemployment with a diploma constitutes an important part of today's unemployment phenomenon. Individuals' experiences of unemployment are closely linked to the socio-economic structure of countries and may show different dynamics in different nations and cultures. In addition, these experiences differ according to the relationship between the state, family and labor markets. Since there is not enough state support for the unemployed with a diploma in Turkey, the "family" comes to the fore as a support mechanism. Young people are pushed to live with their families in order to cope with economic difficulties. The family home is seen as a safe harbor in case of unemployment. Families ensure that their children are financially comfortable during this period, while also meeting their needs such as feeding, laundry, dishwashing and meal preparation. However, on the other side of the coin, young people with a diploma return to the family home at a viii time in their lives when they should be gaining their independence and thus come under pressure, control and authority. This pressure, control and authority can be overt or covert, with values such as the love and sacrifices of the family. The structure of the family shapes how graduates experience the family home and unemployment. Unemployment has effects beyond financial loss for individuals. In order to understand these effects, it is necessary to look at the changes in the meaning of work and unemployment in the historical process. In order to understand the unemployment of today's graduates and its sociological effects, the connection between unemployment and capitalist transformations, liberal policies, high consumption and the system of education and the ideologies it harbors must first be understood
