Abstract (EN)

Graffiti and Street Art are described as one of the contemporary art practices of today. It has emerged with the concern of human self-existence. Graffiti and Street Art; It is seen that they are similar to the cave paintings, which are accepted as the beginning of art, in terms of form and meaning. Today's definition of art is defined as works produced after modernism. Before modernism, it was accepted only as a 'historical' process of art. In the thesis review, the semantic processes of wall painting were also examined within the scope of the subject in order to better understand today. Graffiti and Street Art represent an existential interaction that man has established between nature and the social structure he is in through the wall. Graffiti and Street Art are the first actions of the individual's free expression, understanding and creation process against nature. In particular, he emphasized the singularity of the individual more in the definitions of modernism and postmodernism. We see that Graffiti and Street Art also have common aspects such as the individuality of the person and the rejection of the traditional side of art. Graffiti and Street Art, which are seen among contemporary art productions, are now taking place in museums, exhibitions and public spaces. This expression developed itself over time by being influenced by some art movements. In this study, research has been carried out to define Graffiti and Street Art in contemporary art and to show the importance of the libertarian expression it brings to art.
