Selection of walnut (Juglans regia L.) genotypes in Canakkale province, Bayramic district

It was made on genotypes selected from walnut trees grown from seed in Bayramiç district of Çanakkale between 2018-2022. This study was intended to determine the types suitable for the region's ecology, with high fruit yield and quality, and which can be a variety. 102 trees were identified for the study, and the selected trees and fruits were used as material. By examining the important parameters used in selection breeding from tree and fruit characteristics of genotypes, promising genotype selection was made with the help of modified weighted grading rankit method. Principal component analysis was conduct to determine the parameters employed in the selection. The genotypes examined within the scope of the research had their tree, flower, and fruit traits determined in great detail. A total of fifteen genotypes with a weighted degree of 250 or above were chosen as promising. Fruit weights with rind were between 12.75-17.85 g, internal fruit weights were between 6.59-8.83 g, fruit heights were between 39.02-48.08 mm, and internal yields were between 45.50-52.91 percent in the genotypes studied. In the protandrial direction, nine of the genotypes displayed dichogamy. Flowering of the Homogamy type was found in six genotypes. Fruit size, fruit thickness, fruit width, and fruit length are the features that contribute the most to the explanation of variation in the first component in principal component analysis. A decision tree diagram was designed as a tool to help with genotype selection. The results of promising genotypes determined by weighted grading scale were compared to promising genotypes obtained using a PCA-based technique. All of the potential genotypes obtained by the decision tree and principal component analysis approaches were found to be in perfect agreement with the promising genotypes determined by the weighted degree scores. These methods, which are more practical in genotype selection, have been presented as a tool for determining potential genotypes in this context.
