The effect of the conflict resolution program on secondary school students' conflict solution skills, peer relationship and peer challenge

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of conflict resolution education program on conflict resolution skills, peer relations and peer bullying of secondary school students. For this purpose, 6th grade students of a secondary school in Ataşehir district of Istanbul constitute the experimental and control group. Conflict Resolution Skills Scale, Peer Relationship Scale and Peer Bullying Scale were applied to the students. For Conflict Resolution Psychoeducation, 12 volunteer students formed the experimental group and 12 students formed the control group. A 10-week conflict resolution training program was applied to the experimental group, and no action was taken to the control group. Mann Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used for statistical analysis of the research. The data were analyzed in SPSS 22 program. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the students in the experimental group did not differ significantly in favor of the experimental group in terms of conformity, avoidance and integration dimensions of the conflict resolution skills scale and the pretest-posttest mean scores of the peer bullying scale in the victimization, bullying and neutral dimensions. It was determined that the pre-test-post-test mean scores obtained from the domination dimension of the conflict resolution skills scale and the peer relations scale of the students differed significantly in favor of the experimental group. It was concluded that there was no statistically significant difference in the pretest-posttest mean scores of the conflict resolution skills scale, peer relations scale and peer bullying scale of the students in the control group. In this direction, the importance of psychoeducational practices was emphasized and discussed and suggestions were presented.
