The fight numbered Çerkeş sharia record transcription and evaluation (1880-1884)

Ottoman Empire which had been maintaining Turkish-Islam tradition placed great importance to the Justice in all areas. Sharia books consist of court records that are held by qadis, royal decree, commandments, warrants which all comes from central administration. This study includes assessment and transcription of no.5 court records which belong to Çerkeş subprovince of Çankırı. In this research, short descriptions are given about sharia record books. The study is reinforced by telling the short history of Çerkeş. The subjects are in the no.5 court records are made transcription after categorized. No.5 court records consist of 66 poses. The judgments include foundation (wakf), inheritance, alimony, appointment of guardianship, deputation, debit-credit cases, commandments that comes from central administration, correspondences to the other institutions. This study targets; to reveal the communal living and judicial system of the last quarter of the 19th century in Çerkeş and also to contribute to the future studies.
