Turkish version of green eating survey: Validity and reliability

Human activities, including diet patterns, have significant impact on climate change. There are limited scales that include environmental impact of nutrition. In this study, the Green Eating Survey was adapted to Turkish language and culture. Language validation of the Turkish version of the scale was ensured by the translation-back translation method. Professionals were consulted for content validity. Turkish translation of the scale and intercultural adaptation had been completed, the scale was applied to 468 volunteer undergraduate students. In order to evaluate the reliability of the Turkish version of the scale; internal consistency coefficient, test-retest, parallel form methods were applied. As a result of the statistical analyses, it has been proven that Green Eating Survey is a valid and reliable measurement tool for Turkish university students as one of the first scales in Turkey for sustainable nutrition. It was observed that women and the Nutrition and Dietetics students have more knowledge about environmentally conscious eating and prefer sustainable foods (p<0.05). Income level has been evaluated as a determining factor of preference of foods with low environmental impact (p<0.05). It was determined that questions the barriers related to the consumption of sustainable foods, did not differ according to sex, department, or income level (p>0.05). It is recommended to plan interventions aiming at teaching university students about the environmental impact of nutrition and develop policies aiming at increase accessibility in order to ensure the consumption of sustainable foods. In future research, the Green Eating Survey is suitable measurement for Turkish university students.
