Semiological analysis of media usage in jihadist movements: ISIS case

ISIS is a terrorist organization which attacks security forces and civilians from 2014 until today.The organization, whose primary goal is to establish a new country, have targeted the countries and tried to conquer the cities by following a new way differed from the methods of other terrorist organizations. ISIS has occupied the cities such as Al-Bab, Raqqa, Palmyra, Mosul, Sirte, Derna and Benghazi.However, they withdrew from some areas with the security forces of the coalition Powers and even Turkey's security forces's attack. But they also have continued bombing attack in Europe.The resurrection of Islamophobia has fueled anti-Muslim ideas again. Jihadist organization referring to İslam and Quran doesn't accept other beliefs and opposes western thinking.ISIS uses social media extremely good and finds its warriors from different parts of the World. They created big reactions with the videos of torture and propaganda published by social networking sites. The aim of this study is to discuss this questions about the organization which is the best user of social media up to now: Why and how does ISIS gather its warriors? What is their status in the Europe countries ? What are their purposes and plans? How strong are they economically? Because of the Republic of Turkey's ongoing cross-border and inland operations against ISIS, information flow from official sources is limited. Therefore, social media sources and various source books were mainly used in this study. Also, in-depth interviews were journalists and writers and data from centers of strategic research were used.
