The communication and social skills of adolescents who are sheltered in child education centers

In this research, the communication and social skills of adolescents who are sheltered in Child Education Centers were examined in terms of some demographic statistics. Thus, the aim of the research was to point out the level of the aforementioned adolescents? social and communication skills according to their educational backgrounds, the relationship status and educational level of their parents, total income of household, places in which they are living (with family, in the street, under the protection of state, with friends etc.), number of siblings, domestic violence and abuse.The sample group was composed of 87 male students between the ages of 12 and 18, whom are sheltered in the Child Education Centers of Ankara, Elazığ and Izmir and are dragged into crime. The data were collected via the communication skills inventory, social skills inventory and personal inquiry form.During the analysis process of the data, demographic variables were grouped and the scales applied to the students were graded. The analysis of the raw data was tested by the Independent Sample T Test, One Way Anova and Pearson Product- Moment Correlation Coefficient.In conclusion, the research demonstrated that educational levels, relationship and educational status of parents, total income of household, number of siblings, and abuse neither made a significant difference nor altered statistics among adolescents who were drawn into crime. However places in which they were living and domestic violence the status according to the statistically significant differences were observed to be.In this research adolescents who are sheltered in Child Education Centers Communication and Social Skills Inventory average scores were lower than other adolescents who continued their normal life.
