Development of phases of pottery and ceramic documentation methods in archaeology

Thesis which were viewed in terms of improvement phases, manufacture techniques, ingredients of ceramic and drawing method of ceramic pieces in archaeological excavation consist of four parts. In connection with contents of thesis, interview was made with Taner Yılmaz who uses the traditional methods in pottery production in Menemen and production stages of form of wheel-drawn Oinokhoe were documented. In the first part of thesis, phases of traditional ceramic production in Anatolia and Middle East were investigated. Also, especially, advantages of descriptions which show how ceramic is manufactured on some vases were taken to develop thesis. Secondly, preparation process of clay was explained after information was given about clay that is raw material of ceramic and clay deposit in Anatolia. As well as, knowledge was given about shaping techniques, decoration methods, kiln-drying and dying of ceramics, tools that are used by the potters in every phase of production. Thirdly, archaeometry works that is made on piece and definition of colors in ceramics were mentioned. Moreover, information was given concerning materials that are used and technical drawing Finally, introduction of program and drawing issues were investigated under the title of Freehand in computer-aided design works KEYWORDS: Pottery, Clay, Experimental Archeology, Technical Drawing, Computer Aided Drawing.
