Abstract (EN)

COVID-19 is an epidemic that has killed millions of people. The SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic, which was first reported in Wuhan City of Hubei province of China in December 2019, has become an important global health problem. This study was conducted to determine the role of vitamin D in the expression of the IL-6 gene in COVID-19 patients. In this direction, it was aimed to estimate the level of vitamin D, IL-6 mRNA and to determine the relationship between vitamin D and IL-6 in COVID-19 patients. Between 12 March and 15 April 2021, a total of 200 samples, 100 samples from COVID-19 patients and 100 samples from healthy, uninfected people, were collected from quarantine hospitals in Muthanna Governorate. time PCR was used. Sequence-specific primers for the IL-6 gene in the PCR mixture were determined by SYBR Green I real-time PCR detection method. For the quantitative determination of 25 (OH), the ELISA kit was used and tested. Human plasma and serum samples. The effect of 25 (OH) vitamin D3 on IL-6 gene expression was investigated. In the results of vitamin D3 measurement, vitamin D3 deficiency was detected in patients with severe symptoms. In addition, quite significant differences were found in the expression of the IL-6 gene between patients in the control group and each of the critical, severe, and acute Covid-19 patients. In addition, a close relationship was found between IL-6 and vitamin D levels.
