The Democrat Party era for change created by the rural social and economic policies: The case of province of Ordu

This thesis study?s main starting point is the social, political and economical realities taking place in Turkey, especially during World War II coinciding with Single party regime. It?s aim is to analyse the transformation both in political and social life caused by government changeover after war period followed by multi-party system. The reality that masses encountered is attempted to be portrayed.When considered within this framework, CHP?s, the party in power, desicion of not going to World War II caused not only outside world?s conditions to have destructive effects on society but also by the policies implemented, the society was exposed to devastation. Countryside was faced with heavy duties and tax explotation whereas inflation, scarcity of goods and engrossing had destructive effects on society living in cities. These circumstances existed intensively in years between 1939 and 1945 arising significant political consequences and in the following years, they affected Turkish political life in a determinative way.The leading determinative effect was Turkey?s transition to a multi-party system in 1946. Masses that are not oblivious of policy implementations during war, though implied, forced ruling class to this governmental changeover. Sensing the social dissatisfaction, CHP did not resist the change. Instead, it handled the society with tact and approved the multi-party system.Elections made on May 14, 1950 changed single party regime that had been the regime in power for 27 years and due to this reason, an alternative sense of politics was in power. The main problematiques of this study are to analyse the changes that arised from the transition to a multi party system; how these changes spreaded through socity, what their sociological and physological effects were. Specifically in Ordu, how these changes affected daily life, whether they changed individuals? conception of politics and politicians or not.Within the framework of these main problematiques, Ordu was analysed in particular and lives of local villagers during periods, when not only CHP but also Demokrat Parti was in power, were attempted to be traced. With this aim, villagers which experienced these periods at first hand were interviewed and their opinions were received by these personal interviews made. It is attempted to portray whether the change existed in daily and also in terms of intellectual and physological aspects or not.Key Words: Ordu, Single Party Regime, Multi-Party System, Democracy, World War II, Republican People?s Party, Democrat Party.
