Abstract (EN)

Trauma is an unpredictable public health concern that can affect people at any age, from birth to death, and must be diagnosed and treated immediately. Approximately one-third of all traumas are caused by head injuries. Because of its high mortality and morbidity, accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of emergency room are essential. As a result of the potential negative effects of brain computed tomography (CT), which has been utilized as a diagnostic tool for many years, alternative diagnostic procedures have taken its place today. CT is still the most critical test in diagnosing head trauma since no other diagnosis approach has been established. Advancements in technology and medicine have helped to reveal that some biomarkers in traumatic brain injury pass into the blood and CSF. One of these biomarkers is Myelin Basic Protein (MBP). The MBP level was investigated in this study in blood samples taken at the 2nd hour after trauma from rats exposed to different severity head trauma in an experimentally created trauma model. In addition to the control group, four groups were formed, with each group receiving isolated head trauma of varying degrees of severity. MBP levels were found to be significantly higher in blood taken after trauma versus the control group. MBP levels did not increase when the severity of the head trauma was increased when the experimental groups were evaluated within themselves. This report illustrates that MBP is not proportional to the severity of the trauma. Keywords: Head Injury, Emergency Room, Myelin Basic Protein, Computerised Tomography.
