An investigaion on the insecta larvae of the Tigris river (Turkey)

In this study carried out from the seven stations of the Tigris River basin between February 2008 and January 2009, a total of 28 taxa have been determined: 1 taxon of Trichoptera, 3 taxa of Ephemeroptera and 24 taxa of Diptera. One of these species, Orthocladius (Euorthocladius) rivicola, is new record for the Turkish fauna. Additionally, Psychomyia larvae of the Tigris River was also identified here. In the Insecta fauna of Tigris River, Family Chironomidae was dominant group with 21 taxa, and represented with three subfamily, Tanypodinae (2 taxa), Orthocladiinae (16 taxa), Chironominae (6 taxa). During the study period, Cricotopus bicinctus was found the most common and widespread species in spatial and temporal distribution, followed by Caenis macrura, Orthocladius (O.) sp.2 and Orthocladius (S.) sp.
