Religious life in Di̇dem Madak: A psychological research

This study is based on the works of Didem Madak, one of the female poet of the Republican Era, about her thoughts on religion, the image of God, the world of faith, the process of religious conversion and the impact of these processes in her own life. Especially the elements that affecting her religious life and how she experienced religious change and how she reflected on her behavior constitutes the main problem of our work. The Works of the poet was analyzed by using hermeneutic approach and tried to establish a connection between the poetry language and the religion language. The findings obtained showed that Didem Madak preferred to live a secular life until the age of 26 and experienced a rapid and emotional religious change that nourished by meaning of life. In this period, Madak "decided to make peace with God in order to live" began to read out of boks about Islamic mysticism and committed herself to Sufism. It was observed that, there was effective concept of cold and distant father figure which was in the center of the imagination of God and Madaks belief in God was in ambivalence between a childish and mature sense of God. Furthermore, it has been analyzed that she equates the belief in God with the belief in the prophet and sees the prophetic function as a structuring measure to bring a divine regulation into life. Besides, of particular note is that she connects the prophetic role with the mercy of mothers. Concerning the search after the meaning of life, it is obvious that her own childhood, poets, hope and other meaningful experiences inspired Madak. Moreover, it has been analyzed that the death of her mother, her father's relative deprivation, spiritual exhaustion, her own desire for comprehension, and mental satisfaction have led to poetic and religious changes in her life. In short, we can sum up Madak's conversion experience as follows. According to the motives of change, it is obvious that Madak experienced a sudden change through the impact of an emotional dimension. Later, she matured in an intellectual way through further readings. Madaks conversion self could be defined as "introverted" but nevertheless, the conversion process was in an "activistic" manner.
