Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was the evaluation of voice hoarseness after voice therapy in patients presenting with complains and benign vocal cord lesions. The effects of the therapy on life and sound quality is evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory and Voice Handicap Index. The world revolves around a research conducted on May2014 at Ege University Faculty of Medicine (Department of Psychiatry and Otorhinolaryngology): it involved 45 women between 18-60 years of age and 15 men for a total number of patients equal to 60. Those patients had different etiology: 27 vocal cord nodules, 5 vocal cord polyps, 9 vocal cord paralysis, 2 vocal cord cysts, 14 closing disorder of the vocal cords, 2 mutational dysphonia. The study did not include patients with cancer and patients with disabilities. Patients were informed about the study after passing the medical examination. After the Beck Depression Inventory and Patient Voice Handicap Index application has been assessed, hygiene rules about sound therapy session were taught to the patients involved. Patients have to come to therapy sessions in an orderly manner and them and were asked to repeat their breathing exercises the same way they perform them at home. Beck Depression Inventory and Voice Handicap Index sound were measured in every patients before and after 3 months of therapy training. Poll results (both before and after) of the case reports studies were compared with the SPSS v20 software: both results and clinical data about patients were reported in this work Beck Depression Inventory score of 30 and higher means that patients 'with severe depressive symptoms' has been evaluated as suggested by Ege University Psychiatric Clinic. After voice therapy, the average of the Beck Depression Inventory and Voice Handicap Index results based on the results of surveys administered to patients involved in the study decreased. Average Voice Handicap Index before therapy was 11.77, while Beck Depression Inventory average value was 55.65. After voice therapy Voice Handicap Index lowered down to 8.38 and Beck Depression Inventory average went down to 37.70. Hoarseness increases accordingly to the severity of depressive symptoms, therefore this therapy administered to patients seems to have a positive impact in the reduction of depression.
