Abstract (EN)
The study was conducted to investigate the relationship between metabolic control criteria and retinopathy in diabetic patients. This study was carried out as a descriptive study between February-March 2017 with diabetic patients who applied to Çukurova University Balcalı Hospital Ophthalmology Clinic and Clinic. Before the study; Permission was obtained from the Ethics Committee, the institution and the patients. The data of the study were collected by the questionnaire. Data on metabolic control criteria and retinopathy level were obtained from patient files. In addition, blood pressure, body mass index and waist circumference of patients were measured by the researcher. Results are assessed with Shapiro Wilks, Student t, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Chi-Square, Continuity (Yates) correction and Fisher's exact Chi-square tests. It was determined that the mean age of the patients was 61.0±8.7 years and 55.4% of the patients were female. Patients had a mean duration of diabetes diagnosis of 15.4±7.3 years, 97% had a diabetic chronic complication, and 92.8% had indeed diabetic retinopathy. Body mass index, waist circumference and systolic blood pressure were higher in patients with diabetic retinopathy (p<0.05). There was no significant relationship between retinopathy status and retinopathy status with metabolic control criteria (p>0.05). In the vast majority of patients, a chronic diabetic complication, especially retinopathy, there was no statistically significant correlation between metabolic control criteria and retinopathy level. For this reason, it can be said that diabetic patients should be closely monitored for their complications and should be supported with education.
