Expressing the endemic plants grown in the province of Diyarbakir in an artistic framework with a biomorphic style: An a/r/tography examination example

In this thesis, five endemic plants from Diyarbakır province are studied, and their visual representations are created using biomorphic style based on their essence and form characteristics. The plants listed alphabetically with their Latin and Turkish names are: Ajuga Xylorrhiza (Kabamayasıl), Isatis Demiriziana (Bey Çiviti), Lathyrus Trachycoupus (Gelin Burçağı), Onobrychis Silvanensis (Silvan Korungası), Rosularia Blepharophylla (Dicle Koruğu). Moreover, each visual composition included five examples selected from Diyarbakır's historical and cultural places, integrating them into the application studies. Thus, each endemic plant in the visual compositions is accompanied by one notable architectural structure from the city. These are Diyarbakır City Walls, Malabadi Bridge, Virgin Mary Church, Ten-Eyed Bridge, and Great Mosque in sequence. This research based on a interdisciplinary approach attempts to establish a relationship between biological science and plastic arts, bringing together nature and art based on shared aesthetics, form, and structure. The study explores the field of biomorphism, examining works of artists in this arena to inform both theoretical frameworks and practical applications. By studying these artists' exemplary works, the research aims to reach new formal forms and contexts. Another aim of this research is to achieve of sensitivity in gaining an artistic perspective, creating awareness of nature, historical and cultural values, and transferring all these shared values to future generations in light of the findings from theoretical and practical studies. In this research, the a/r/tography method from Arts-Based Educational Research is used. New and different meanings of practical studies are produced by making living inquiries with their own life materials. This study, which employs a biomorphic style, can be restructured with different disciplines of plastic arts. A/r/tography can be reflected in practical studies at all levels of education.
