Toponymic overview of Dobruja (Dobrogea - Romania) Turkish names

The branch of science that tries to explain place names in terms of structure, meaning and origin (toponymy) is called the science of place names. Researches on place names capitalize results from scientific investigation in a broad range of areas, such as linguistics, geography, history, ethnography, sociology, archeology, economics, etc. Dobrogean toponymy carries the traces of the history of this territory. Ottoman domination, for almost five centuries, determined a toponymy mostly Turkish in this region. In my study I approached the Turkish place name from Dobruja (Romania) in the context of geographic point of view. It is considered to be the only continuous trace of a common continuous Ottoman heritage. However, before toponyms can be analysed, they need to be documented. Using the field research and documentary research, especially the topographic maps, toponyms with Turkish origin have been identified.
