Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to first examine the reasons for individuals to have children, then by determining the death anxiety levels of individuals who can and cannot have children naturally; to examine whether the method of having children makes a difference in terms of death anxiety. In addition, death anxiety was evaluated in terms of the existence of the child (for those who could not conceive naturally) and various other variables. The study was carried out with quantitative research method, and both descriptive and relational survey models were used. The sample of the study consists of individuals who can and cannot have children naturally, selected by snowball sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling. A total of 300 people, including 154 people who have a child naturally and 146 who cannot have children naturally, were reached through an online survey. The data were obtained by "Personal Information Form" and "Thorson-Powell Death Anxiety Scale". Descriptive statistics (arithmetic mean, standard error, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, variance) and parametric test (student t-test for the difference between two groups, one-way analysis of variance for the difference between more than two groups) were used in the analysis of the data. Considering the findings obtained, it was determined that death anxiety and subscale scores differ significantly based on the status of the method of having children. Accordingly, it was concluded that individuals who cannot have children naturally have significantly higher death anxiety than those who have children naturally. In addition, it was determined that among individuals who cannot children naturally, the death anxiety of those who have no children are significantly higher than those who have children. As a result of the analyzes, a significant difference was found in the total score of death anxiety in terms of the individual's gender, religiosity, the way of expressing religion and the variable of losing a relative.
