Balkan Naci Islimyeli's art as a unique attidue in the context of east and west dilemma

In this study, the works of Balkan Naci Islimyeli, a Turkish contemporary artist, were examined in the framework of East West dilemma problematic. In a historical process, the artist's works in all periods were handled in the form of thematic sequences. In each group of works that he gave in different periods, a different concept was discussed in each series. His works on the subject were selected and traditional concepts related to the East were investigated. As a result, the reflections of traditional arts such as miniature, calligraphy and painting were reflected in the art of Balkan Naci İslimyeli, which was also reflected in the canvases of other Turkish artists in the 1950s. Considering his works since 1971 and all the professional art production process, it was observed that the artist, who came from an immigrant family, in almost all of his works, remained committed to the tradition but converted it into a modern narrative, which would serve and guide Turkish contemporary art. The East-West conflict, which began to take its place in Turkish literature during the Tanzimat period and the tendencies of historians such as Samuel Huntington on the European front to adopt modernity to their own monopoly and the efforts to convince societies that it was impossible for them to come to the same level as the West, have been unquestionably accepted by many intellectuals; however, the history of mankind has seen the end of many powerful empires and it has been overlooked that the centuries, which are believed to be too long for human beings, are not so long in terms of human history. Having examined all of the works using qualitative research methods combined with the results of all literature research regarding the East West dilemma and despite all the known religious and political dimensions of East West over centuries together with the efforts to impose such on communities, it has been synthesized that Balkan Naci Islimyeli has been presenting his works as s synthesis of West and East, which also constitute characteristics as antithesis to the discourse of the dilemma or conflict.
