Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the ethical dilemmas and ethical decision-making processes of midwives working in the delivery room. Materials And Methods: Qualitative research method was used in this study which focuses on ethical dilemma experiences of midwives with birth experience. The study was conducted with midwifery graduate students studying at Manisa Celal Bayar University Health Sciences Institute in 2017. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form in order to reveal the experiences of the midwives and sound records. The number of participants consisted of 13 volunteers studying in the given period and were determined according to the research criteria. Data were analyzed by content analysis and Nvivo package program was used to analyze the data. Findings: When the research data were analyzed, the ethical dilemmas experienced by midwives in the delivery room were grouped under 5 main themes as "hospital management", "differences in approach to labor", "midwife-physician-patient communication", "management of difficult labor" and "approach to newborn". It was seen that various factors were effective in the reasons of these ethical dilemmas and midwives showed different approaches in ethical decision making. Results: The findings of the study show that midwives experience various dilemmas while working in the delivery room and are aware of most of them. It is also seen that midwives take responsibility in the decision-making process and experience many emotions intensively in this process and deal with these emotions.
