Abstract (EN)

Transforming growth factor ? (TGF- ? ) is the important polypeptide which is expressed from all of the cell types. Various growth factors such as TGF- ? play significant roles during wound healing process. There are limited numbers of studies on the effect of exogenous TGF- ? implantation on oxidative events of salivary gland. That is why we planned to investigate the effects of oral submucosal implanted TGF- ? on the oxidative stress of salivary gland.In this study, we used New Zeland albino rabbits (male, n= 36, 2,5 ? 0,4 kg). After submucosal incisions were made the rabbits were divided into two equal groups: 1- Untreated wounds and 2- TGF- ? implanted wounds. The rabbits were killed by excess of sodium penthobarbitale anestesia on the 1st, 3th and 5th days of postwounding. Submandibular glands were excised immediately. The levels of malondialdehit (MDA) which is the last products of lipid peroxidation, glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid (AA) levels which are important antioxidants, nitric oxide (NOx) levels and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity which is the indicator of neutrophil infilitration were measured by spectrophotometrically. Results were compared by Anova Variance Analysis and Mann Whitney U test.In conclusion, it has been found that exogenous TGF- ? treatment caused a increase in MDA, GSH and NOx levels of salivary gland. At the third day of wound healing, increased MPO activity and AA levels of salivary gland were determined by TGF-beta treatment.Key Words : TGF- ? , submandibulary gland, lipit peroxidation, antioxidant,MPO, Vitamine C, nitric oxide
