Abstract (EN)

Mass and stiffness irregularities, which are faced often, of building-type structures, affect seismic behaviour in a negative manner substantially. In this study, two existing buildings with such irregularities are examined in terms of relative displacement, interstorey displacement and base shear forces due to seismic excitation. Various passive energy dissipation devices, namely, linear and nonlinear viscous dampers, viscoelastic dampers, friction dampers and tuned mass dampers, are proposed for seismic response mitigation. Damper capacities determined by equal additional damping ratio assumptions for each damper are placed to structural matrices correctly to perform dynamic analyses. The most effective damper is achieved by comparison of equivalent damping ratios and seismic responses. Newmark-β Method is used for computation of time responses. MATLAB program is used for conductiing all analyses in the study.
