Abstract (EN)

The aims of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional labor, burnout and job satisfaction. After physical and mental labor ,emotional labor is considered an third type of labor. Emotional labor can be defined briefly to exert emotions according to emotional display rules dictated by organizations for organizational purpose. While employees' effort to exert the emotional labor, there are individual and organizational outcomes. Job satisfaction and burnout is individual work outcomes of emotional labor. Emotional labor demand jobs, required - face to face or voice to voice- interaction with customers, patients or service receivers. Social services area, also required performing face to face interaction to service receivers. Present study to be done at the seven nursing homes in the province of İzmir. The sample of the fieldwork consists of 162 elder care workers. The sample was applied a survey includes the Emotional Labor Scale consisted 26 questions; the Michigan Organizational Assessment Job Satisfaction Sub-scale consisted 3 questions; the Maslach Burnout Inventory and demographic questions. According to analyses, while increases the level of surface acting correspondingly increases the level of emotional exhaustion that sub-dimension of burnout syndrome and decreases the level of job satisfaction. Also while increases the level of deep acting correspondingly decreases the level of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization that sub-dimensions of burnout syndrome and increases the level of job satisfaction. According to analyses emotional labor dimensions was not significant correlation with demographic characteristics except for marital status. Analyses to revealed that single workers was display more surface acting than married employees. Analyses revealed that genuine acting was positive and significant correlate with personal accomplishment that sub-dimension of burnout sindrome. The examining of emotional labor in the field of social services is not enough in Turkey. Therefore this research expected to be beneficial that overcome of this deficiency.
