The relationship between emotional abuse and eating attitude

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional abuse and eating attitudes. The examination of this relationship between emotional abuse and eating attitudes is considered to be quite contributive by means of future studies. Perceived Abuse Scale and Eating Attitudes 40 test is conducted among the İstanbul Gelişim University students who construct the sample of this research. Sociodemographic data form is used by the researcher in order to collect the information of participants. Sample group of the research consists of 318 students. The indications which resulted from the study are analyzed within SPSS 24 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) programme. While evaluating the data, descriptive statistical methods such as percentage, mean and standard deviation are used. ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Independent t-test, Welch and Tamhane't2 are used in order to assess the data. Within the research, sociodemographic data form and survey questions are carried out among 318 participants which consists of 255 woman (%80,2) and 63 man (%19,8). It is detected that; the perceived emotional abuse scale score is meaningly related to eating attitudes test's sub-dimensions fatness concern and social pressure. As the emotional abuse level of individuals increase, it is observed that the eating attitudes get worse. The participants whose eating attitude scores and perceived emotional abuse scale scores are high, are detected to be the participants who are psychiatrically diagnosed, who receive psychiatric treatment and who have medical illnesses. The relationship between emotional abuse and eating attitudes are elaborated by means of demographic variables. The results of assessment are remarked in the findings section. Consequently, the similar researches in the literature are discussed and various suggestions for future studies are mentioned.
